Fully hand embroidered and unique set of 6 reversible place mats are made by women as they work from home. Combining embroidered jute with cotton fabric, these table mats will add a touch of texture, colour, and warmth to every meal.
Hand embroidery on rustic and natural jute fabric is our way of combining tradition with nature to bring them into your home and sure to light up your table!
They are painstakingly embroidered by our artisans with each set taking awhile to make.

Our mission is to provide opportunities to those who never had any. We train for free and employ housewives, farmers or housemaids in rural or city outskirts of India. Along with not having had an opportunity, they also suffer tremendous social barriers to step outside home for work.
Through free skill-building workshops as well as a lot of time and patience, we train such women to slowly grow from makers, to artisans. For our quality requirements, this often takes 2 to 3 years.

All our products are handmade with materials sourced directly from weavers and artisans, and can be composted at the end of their lives to merge into soil.

Washing: Although our materials are colour fast, we recommend soaking your product in warm salt water the first time you wash it. Subsequently, your product can be washed in your washing machine, alongside other clothes, etc.
Drying: As with most natural fibers, it is recommended to air hang dry to ensure the product retains its form best.
Ironing: Since jute is a strong fiber, it is easiest to iron when sprayed with water first or with a steam iron.

These hand embroidered place mats are made of natural jute and combined with a complementary ajrakh or ikat cotton weave fabric. The embroidery colors highlight and complement the carefully chosen cotton fabric that enhances the look of the organic jute of the mat, sure to light up your table!
Our mats are embroidered in a kantha stitch design pattern. Hand embroidery on rustic and natural jute fabric is our way of combining tradition with nature, to bring them into your home. They are embroidered individually by our artisans, each set takes awhile to make.
The jute mats have a backing and a broad overlapping border in a smart ajrakh or ikat cotton design, elegantly matching the embroidery color theme and framing the understated embroidery. This makes your mats reversible, so use the jute side or the cotton side!
Our placemats are approximately 14″ wide and 19″ long.
We suggest dry cleaning for longer life, but they fare well in machine wash as well.
Ohrna patronizes jute because it is a natural vegetable fiber, biodegradable, naturally decomposable and strong and durable. The expired fiber is recyclable more than once. And we package all our products in up-cycled saris!
